Traditionally, cochlear implant performance has been based on scores obtained in optimal listening conditions, e.g. testing in quiet rooms or with simple sentence materials. Today, these test materials and testing conditions seem no longer sufficiently challenging because they assess speech perception under conditions that are far different from real life listening situations encountered by cochlear implant users.
While traditional test methods already show HiResolution Sound to produce better speech understanding outcomes than any previous strategy, test methods that represent real life listening situations are showing even larger benefits from HiResolution Sound than traditional methods have shown.
Sound quality assessments have demonstrated the benefits many patients receive from HiResolution for music perception, sound clarity and improvements for listening with background noise. Extremely encouraging results are seen for young children using HiResolution showing large improvements in speech understanding as early as 1 month post switch on, with a development rate that far exceeds that of standard strategies. Improvements in these early crucial months ensures optimal language acquisition.
